Howdy folks! 😊
Hot Chicken Wings! – Another one of my favourites! 😋 The relationship between the heat of the chilli and the delicious taste of seasoned chicken have a special place in my heart 💕. These wings though, have a bit of an exotic twist, as they are seasoned with Harissa paste.😊
If you’re unfamiliar with Harissa paste, it is a spicy red sauce commonly used in North Africa, made of simple ingredients like red chilies, garlic, vinegar, coriander and cumin mashed together into a paste. 😊 It’s found in many grocery stores, usually in the ‘Sauces’ section, and very convenient to use especially as a marinade. Producing Delicious results! 👌🏾
The Harissa Paste adds a very unique and spicy flavor though it is not very hot, So you are welcome to add hot chili – in line with your tolerance levels. 😉
I promise you’ll like this exotic take on a house hold staple (chicken wings) and it will be a guaranteed hit the next time you host! 😊

minutesIngredients
1.2 kg Chicken Wings
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1 Tablespoon Harissa Paste
Vegetable oil, for frying
1 Teaspoon Garlic powder
1 Tablespoon Paprika
1 cup Corn starch
1 Teaspoon Chili powder (optional)
- Sauce
1/2 cup Honey
2 Tablespoons Harissa Paste
1 1/2 Tablespoons Hot Chili Sauce
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Teaspoon smoked Paprika
1 Tablespoon Butter
Directions
- As usual with wings, start by removing with wing tip, and then separating the winglet and the drumlets. Again, this remains optional – however it makes the wings more manageable by hand, and easier to share. 😊
- Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black Pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon Harissa paste, chili powder (if using) and 2 teaspoons vegetable oil. 😊
- ⛔️The marinade shouldn’t be too wet. Allow the wings to marinade for at least 4 hours, just so the flavor can really infuse. Overnight will be best. 😊
- In a separate container, mix together the cornstarch (you can also use regular flour if you don’t have cornstarch), paprika, remaining salt, pepper and garlic powder. 😊
- Lightly dust the wings in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off the excess. 😊
- Next, heat your oil in a pan, and fry the wings for about 5 minutes on each side. Make sure there’s enough oil to cover the wings. 😊
- Remove the wings from the pan and set them aside to drain of any excess oil, while you prepare the honey Harissa sauce. 😊 The draining can also be done by placing the fried chicken on kitchen paper towel. 😊
- In a pan, melt the butter, and then add the Harissa Paste, Honey, Vinegar and Hot sauce. Let that cook together for about 3 minutes or so, just to let everything come together. 😊
- Once the sauce comes together, return the wings to the pan and stir them into the sauce. Working quickly, until the wings are completely covered in the sauce. 😊
- Serve the wings on a platter, and use some fresh herbs to garnish. Enjoy! 😊
- P.S – Had mine with Potato Salad for lunch! 😋👌🏾
